The Colombian Scholarship
Fund & Leadership Initiatives LIZWAN is a self-sustainable
Lutheran ministry whose goal is to provide real opportunities
for formal education, Christian leadership & holistic
development among poor & displaced families in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Colombia. From now
on, we will refer to it as CSFLI.
Using a holistic process of
spiritual empowerment, CSFLI plays a key & leading
role for poor & displaced families to experience a
healing sense of community, develop family and social skills,
foster self-sustainability & realize their spiritual & socio-economic
potential as children of God.
CSFLI self-sustainability is
accomplished through a unique approach. To provide services,
we depend on the interest of our invested capital with
the ELCA Foundation.
Since interest rates have been
low in the last few years, starting in 2000, the Council
of San Pablo Lutheran Church in Colombia decided to also
use 40% of all gifts received as a further support for
providing services. This means that every received
gift is a gift that keeps on giving. Our experience with
this approach has been very successful & continues
to secure the ongoing growth & continuity of this vital
ministry!
